It's has been a minute.. Thanks to Caylib( I hope that isn't spelt too horribly) who is like the bar spearheader, our great bartender extraordinaire: Orlando, Matt: our very kind and quick barback and server( brand new!) and of course the great and kind NEW (also) manager: Diego! Thanks for the delicious lemon merengue with raspberry sorbet and berries dessert! Omg plate- licking good: thanks! It was such a great end to a delicious dinner which included a perfectly medium rare steak ( I snuck a couple off my poor fiancé's plate) and I went for the ravioli again, which delivered this time! Umami all the way with that egg and the sauce! The hummus and flatbread are always a staple! This is my previous rating from three months ago. Cleopatra In Boats For SaleCleopatra Eye MakeupFinally doing it! Ok after a fun filled nite with the great young Asian manager hosting a gregarious happy birthday while enjoying exceptional food (as always), I find myself writing this. Thanks for great food all tapas style! Non mushroom palates actually enjoyed it!) Diego was fun and funny and put up with our crazy personalities whilst guiding us through the menu deftly. Keep doing what you are doing to keep us coming back for more! I actually really liked this place. I was a little hesitant because I read the reviews but I was going for a birthday dinner so I didnt really have a choice. We started at the bar area and the bartender was extremely attentive and helpful. The drinks were great. We all got different drinks and all loved them. I will say the bartender seemed to only know how to make specialty drinks that were on their menu but that wasn't a huge issue. The drinks here are a little pricey and that was annoying but its Hollywood so I was prepared. I also enjoyed the food. It's tapas style so we tried different things. I loved their hummus; it was incredibly tasty. I also got the shrimp skewer and spicy potatoes. I enjoyed it all. The group also had a mushroom flatbread, scallops, octopus, peppers & more. No complaints from anyone. It was a dark and cute ambiance here (great for date night) and the wait staff was great. All in all, I enjoyed it here and I will return. Came here for my sister birthday dinner. Simply blown away scrumptious. Luved there menu. Tourist trap for sure. The food was bland and oily and lacked flavor. Epitome of Hollywood facade with it looking better than it is. Front f the house staff seated us in a corner when entire restaurant was empty and kept saying we would give you a better table while majority of tables were still empty. Service was slow. Our waitress forgot to put in the potatoes even though it was the first thing we ordered and we asked about it the entire meal and got it at the end of our meal. We redeemed the Yelp offer but they later try to slip it back on the bill. The atmosphere is nice but doesn't make up for the food or service. Although they have tons of vegetarian and vegan and gluten free options which I appreciate, this place does not carry it out in its dishes. I would rather go to a restaurant that has one great vegan and gluten free dish than a place that does below mediocre vegan gluten free dishes. I think majority of the reviews for this place come from passing by traffic like tourists but if you are an LA resident, there are far superior and better Mediterranean options to even justify coming to this place. Majority of the diners were sent here for their Pre theater meal before their show at the pantages. Don't waste your appetite on this extremely oily food. Everything tasted the same which was oil with a side of veggies or meat. Nope! Nope! Nope! I won't be returning to this place. Here are a few highlights of what went wrong. Staff doesn't know their own menu. Before deciding to stay we asked to look at the menu and when we came across a word we were not familiar with and asked the staff, they simply said they didn't know. Perhaps training your staff on their own menu should be at the top of the training list. No? 2. The Library w/ dirty cushions. We waited for the restaurant to open, as suggested by the staff, in their second floor lounge named The Library. It's a cute little spot but when we decided to sit outside in what seemed like a really cute outdoor area we couldn't find a cushion that wasn't smudged with stains. Gross! Why have white cushions if you're not going to clean them. We stayed inside and were happy with our service and drinks but it was a lovely night to be outside. Shame. 3. **Completely ignored. We made our way down to the restaurant after it opened and were seated in a corner near the front. A few minutes later a party of 4 was seated next to us. We looked over the menu for a minute and watched as the party of 4 got water, flatbread and hummus. Orders for the party were taken and 1. We must have been in the bermuda triangle of the restaurant because we weren't seen until I went to get our parking validated. Suddenly someone spoke up and a girl was at our table asking if we needed anything. Uhhhh.. yeah hi didn't you see us before? We've been here staring at you for 2. I little too late darlin'. We left! The place was practically empty at the time. There are plenty of places around with actual customer service so I don't feel like I'll be missing out on anything. Cannot recommended. I should mention, I have dined here before. The food wasn't extra special or anything but it was pricey for the size of the portions you get. Had I written this review immediately after leaving Cleo I would have been inclined to leave a 4- 5 star review, however, since enjoying what I thought was a rather delicious meal, I came home to an upset stomach and symptoms that progressed into an unpleasant case of food poisoning. The restaurant has courteous staff that are extremely attentive ensuring that our party was enjoying our meal from our first appetizer to our last piece of baklava. I tried the lamb tartare, labne dip, a variety of kabobs, the hanger steak, garlic shrimp, cheese boreg, lamb tajine, and persimmon salad to name a few.. Granted that we consumed rare and raw meats, I am certain that something was off in the prep process. I was really hoping to like Cleo and I did.. I got home. If you're going to try this place I suggest you steer clear of anything raw or cooked medium. We came here for a birthday & literally everyone in our group ended up with a not so pleasant unexpected surprise. This is not bland hotel restaurant food. You can snag the Hollywood continental breakfast for $1. This includes unlimited juice, coffee and a bar full of Mediterranean treats PLUS one hot item. It's actually a good deal and the food is super high quality. All the food on the bar is all you can eat and on the day I dined it included Greek yogurt/fresh fruit/granola/honey, croissants and pastries, apricots, tomatoes, salad, olives etc. I was in town for a conference (aka an excuse to hang out with my besties) and the resident foodie planner of our group made us dinner reservations here. Service & atmosphere: the place was trendy, dimly lit, and had great energy. Our server was great and treated us well. Foooood: so one of the best dishes was actually the free dip that we got with a Yelp check in. My friend loved the labneh with feta so much she actually went home and tried to recreate it! We also ordered the hummus, pork belly kebab, meatballs, Brussels sprouts, and bone marrow and oxtail (we love fatty meat, what can I say). Drink wise, everyone was happy with their cocktails. Overall the food tasted great and I'm glad we went. I wouldn't necessarily make it a point to return the next time I'm in LA (since there's so much to eat and try elsewhere) and we weren't necessarily completely full afterwards (we even discussed going to Mc. Donalds after if that gives you a sense), but it was the perfect restaurant for a girls dinner night. My best friend took me to Cleo last night for my birthday. Five solid stars for impeccable service and fantastic food. I'm a Big League girl. I like strong drinks and LOTS of good food, so usually tapas type spots tend to irritate me. I didn't have the problem of not being satisfied here. The food is richly flavored, sumptuous, lavish. I indulged in the bread, served hot and in a brown paper bag. I was trying to pace myself and tear off small portions, you know.. I was eating it, then basically said "F*** it" and dove in. YOU MUST have the pork belly. It is the means by which I judge all restaurants. Then YOU MUST have the lamb shawarma. I'm still thinking about both. My friend was keeping it light, so she got the Brussel sprouts and shrimp. Seriously, if for some reason, you doubt the existence of God.. Both are miracles. Moving on.. Our server was JC. He took excellent care of us, as one would expect. However, he had to really step up and pull a trick out his bag. My friend and I closed the restaurant down, eating, drinking, catching up. She forgot to ask him to bring out a dessert so we could do the candle, happy birthday thing. It was too late. The kitchen was closed. I'm also a pastry chef, so she knows how maniacal I am about dessert. I never skip it. NEVER.). JC said he'd figure something out.. Yep. He had the balls to serve a peeled banana, two dots of honey for the eyes and the lit candle for a Happy Birthday smiley face. It was hilarious. Yes, I missed the fantastic dessert, but as a chef, I respect the kitchen and he was so much fun about the whole thing that he made our night. Flavorful drinks, but next time (please Lord, make it soon!), I may stick to my signature dry martinis. Horrible. My companion and I came in for a romantic dinner he planned and it was a total flop. We came in specifically for the luxurious atmosphere paired with "quality food" they advertised. Firstly it looks really grimy and dark in the restaurant. It's in a vintage inspired hotel with no free parking. Parking is $1. 5 so be prepared. About CLEO | CLEO. Request Information on the 2. CLEO Conference. The 2.
